Judges receive message reports with the verification printed on the page. GALs, parenting coordinators, mediators and attorneys can be given read-only access. Proof you can check, not proof you have to trust.
What a judge receives
A SIGIL message report is built for the way courts read records. It carries its own verification, so nothing about it requires the Court to visit any website.
Labels courts already read
Message k of N, Sent, From, To, First Viewed, Subject and Attachments, with full timestamps that show the offset and UTC. Message bodies are line-numbered for pinpoint citation.
Scope you can see
The cover states how many messages are in range and lists any that were left out. Every page carries a page ID and the chain head.
Verification on the page
The last page prints the hashes a technician needs, and one line any reader can use: the checkpoint number and the chain head. A QR code encodes only the report ID and the chain head.
No screening results
Screening results are shown only to the person writing. They never appear in a report, and reports reproduce messages verbatim.
Read-only for the case
You see the record. You can't change it. The same record both parents have, and nothing more.
- Read-only access where the order or the parties allow it, ending when the order says it ends.
- Every view is logged, and the log is kept with the record.
- Thread and date filters to read the whole record quickly, with sent and first-viewed times on every message.
- No side channel. Access shows the shared record only: no drafts, no screening results, nothing a parent didn't send.
Three ways to check a report
By eye
Find the chain head printed on the report.
Find the same checkpoint in the copy the parties or the custodian received.
Compare the first and last eight characters.
Offline
Open the offline verifier, a single file that needs no network.
Load the export that came with the report.
Read the result: a plain line per message, and a printable summary.
In a browser
Open the check page.
Drop in the export. It never leaves the device.
Paste the checkpoint root you hold, to compare.
A check shows whether the record has changed. It does not judge what a message says, and it does not show who typed it.
Naming a monitored platform
Orders often call for a named monitored platform "or similar". This sample shows how an order could name SIGIL, or leave room for another platform the parties agree on.
It is a sample only. It is not legal advice, and no court has reviewed it. Bracketed text is for the parties, counsel and the court to decide.
The parties shall communicate about [the minor children and other case-related matters] only through SIGIL, a monitored communication platform (sigil.avowal.ai), or another monitored communication platform the parties agree on in writing, as follows:
- Each party shall keep an account and read new messages at least [once every 24 hours].
- Communications shall be limited to [case-related matters] and shall contain no harassing or threatening language.
- Messages shall not be edited or deleted. Either party may offer the platform's message reports, with their printed verification, as a record of the communications, subject to the rules of evidence.
- [Name of neutral custodian] is designated to receive the platform's signed checkpoints.
- [The guardian ad litem / parenting coordinator / mediator] shall be given read-only access to the parties' messages until [date or further order].
- The cost of the platform shall be paid [by each party for their own account / __% by each party].
- Nothing in this order authorizes the platform to decide whether any communication complies with this order.
Held by others, on purpose
Signed checkpoints go to both parties and a neutral custodian, or the court, where it agrees to hold them. That is what stops anyone, SIGIL included, from quietly rewriting the record.
What SIGIL doesn't do
- SIGIL is not a court and does not decide whether anything violates an order.
- Screening results are never presented as findings, and never appear in a report.
- A report is a record of communications. Whether and how it is used is for the court.
