SIGIL is a monitored message channel for co-parents whose court order calls for one. Before a message is sent, automated screening checks it against the order's terms. Once sent, it can't be edited or deleted in the app, and every message is chained into a tamper-evident record.

SIJ-il. It rhymes with "vigil". It comes from the Latin sigillum, the small seal pressed into wax to close a letter. A wax seal never stopped anyone from opening a letter. It showed whether someone had.

SIGIL is in development and isn't in use in any case yet. It is designed to be the kind of monitored platform a court order can name. Whether to name it is for the parties and the court. There is sample order language for counsel to adapt.

No. Once sent, a message can't be edited or deleted in the app. If you need to correct something, send a new message. The original stays.

Automated screening by a large language model reads each draft against your order's terms before it's sent. Human review applies to flags before any flag is treated as more than an automated result, not to every message.

It can. Screening is automated and can be wrong: it can miss things, and it can flag things that are fine. If something is flagged as possibly off-topic, you can edit it, or add the case reason and send. You remain responsible for what you send.

No. Screening results are shown only to the person writing. They never appear on the shared message, a receipt or a report. If you add a case reason, that reason is sent with your message.

No. SIGIL does not store unsent drafts, messages it held back, or style tips. Your draft stays on your device until you send it or delete it.

It helps you stay within your order's terms by checking before you send. It can't decide what's allowed; only a court does that. Passing screening doesn't mean a message follows the order, and you remain responsible for what you send.

It means any change is detectable. Every message is chained to the one before it, and signed checkpoints go to both parties and a neutral custodian. If anyone changed, removed or reordered a message, the record would stop matching those copies. Try it on a sample.

Checkpoints are timestamped by independent timestamp authorities and anchored to the Bitcoin blockchain through OpenTimestamps. That fixes, in public, when each checkpoint existed. Only fingerprints are anchored, never content. Your messages themselves are never put anywhere public, and a fingerprint can't be turned back into your words.

Anyone with the receipt can check it. Only fingerprints are checked. Your words are never published. A check shows whether the record has changed. On its own, a fingerprint reveals nothing about the words.

You and the other parent. GALs, parenting coordinators, mediators and attorneys can be given read-only access where the order or the parties allow it, and every view is logged. Records can also be produced by court order or exported by the parties.

The record is designed to outlive the service. Both parties and a neutral custodian hold signed checkpoints, exports check themselves with the offline verifier, and the timestamps and anchors are public.
